David retrouve ses sensations
L’exploration du désert d’Atacama a emmené les concurrents du Dakar tout au nord du Chili, à Arica, dernière ville avant la frontière péruvienne après 456 km de spéciale et 265 km de liaison. Pour ce gros morceau de désert avant la journée de repos, le menu fut copieux en dunes. Après avoir surfé sur ces montagnes de sable, les pilotes ont dû affronter les inévitables zones de fesh-fesh, que l’on appelle aussi « guadal » dans cette partie du monde.

David s’est classé 14e à 22′44” du vainqueur et est remonté de la 60e à la 43e du classement provisoire, à 5 h 41′43” du leader, Marc Coma.
Après la grosse galère d’hier (boîte bloquée en première dans les dunes de l’Atacama et près de cinq heures perdues), David a pu repartir avec un nouveau moteur. Sans prendre de risques, il a assuré une 14e place qui lui permet d’entamer sa remontée au classement provisoire.

Après la longue liaison le menant au bivouac d’Arica, tout au nord du Chili, David a pu retrouver son équipe vendredi soir.
La journée de repos (samedi) à Arica va permettre aux pilotes et aux mécaniques de souffler avant une deuxième partie qui s’annonce très difficile.

Laurent Lazard fidèle au poste
Laurent s’est classé 48e à 1 h 51′35 du vainqueur et est remonté à la 65e place du classement provisoire, à 8 h 29′57” du leader.

Le pilote Sherco s’est bien sorti des dunes de cette spéciale très difficile qui aura laissé des traces dans le peloton des motards. Il lui restait ensuite à rejoindre le bivouac d’Arica après une longue liaison…
Samedi, la journée de repos à Arica sera la bienvenue avant une 7e étape, dimanche, entre Arica et Antofagasta qui s’annonce la plus longue du rallye avec 208 km de liaison et 631 km de spéciale.

David finds his feelings
After a journey of exploration in the Atacama Desert, 721 km from Iquique to Arica and a special stage of 456, competitors of the Dakar 2011 arrive to the city of Arica, next to the northern border of Chile, where it meets Peru. After a very demanding stage, competitors will be rewarded with the rest day.

David Casteu started 60th this morning, and after applying all his talent during the stage, he finishes 14th, 22′44” from the winner, Ruben Faria. With this result, David is 43rd in the provisional classification, 5h41′43” from the overall leader, Marc Coma.
After all problems on stage 5 (blocked gear box and traversing the Dunes of the Atacama at first speed, losing about 5 hours), David started this morning with a new engine. Without taking major risks, he ensured a 14th place, which enables him to step up in the provisional classification.

At the end of the long road connection to the bivouac of Arica, David joined his team this afternoon.
The rest day in Arica will allow riders and mechanics to breathe a little before the second part of the rally starts, but be aware, it´s announced to be even more difficult!

Laurent Lazard faithful to his mission
Laurent finishes the stage 48th, at 1h51′35″ from stage winner, Faria, and takes the 65th position overall. He is 8h29′57” from the leader.
The Sherco rider managed to get himself out of the dunes of this very hard special stage. The task was harder due to the marks on the ground left by other riders.
After the rest day, the Dakar 2011 attacks with the longest special stage of the rally. Sunday will be a long long journey from Arica to Antofagasta, 829 km, and riders will have to get out from a tough timed section of 631 km.
